Unniyappam | Mattancherry

An edible journey through memory, and identity

This isn’t just a food tour. It’s a walk through memory, resistance, sustainability and identity told through the everyday ingredients that have shaped Kerala’s kitchens and its conscience.

As we move through the lanes of Mattancherry, you’ll taste more than flavours. You’ll encounter a living archive, of climate and caste, of rituals passed down in quiet defiance. Some stories are whispered in spice. Others are wrapped in leaves or fried into gold. All are meant to be experienced, not explained.

We’ll pause at doorways where time lingers. We’ll sip what was once survival. We’ll listen to the whirl of machines that still remember touch over speed. Every stop is a conversation between the past and present, land and labour, longing and love.

A trail of textures and scents that slowly reveal something deeper. And somewhere along the way quietly, without announcement you’ll meet the holy trinity of Kerala cuisine: the three ingredients that feed its body, memory, and soul.

Come hungry, for taste, for story, for something that stays with you long after the last bite.

*Whether you’re a Keralite living abroad, a traveller from afar, or someone discovering Kerala with fresh eyes—this trail is for you.
