The Kochi Heritage Project was founded in 2018 by Johann Binny Kuruvilla, a Fort Kochi native who left a corporate career, travelled the length of India, and came back with a single conviction: that Kochi's stories — all of them, not just the ones carved into church walls — deserve to be told well.
What began as an Instagram documentation project has grown, over seven years, into one of India's most respected heritage storytelling initiatives. We run walking tours, food trails, and immersive cultural experiences across Fort Kochi, Mattancherry, Ernakulam, and Tripunithura. We work with schools, colleges, and corporate groups. We have walked with 2,500+ guests from across India and the world. We operate as a social enterprise under Timeless Experiences LLP.
Everything we do is grounded in primary research, built with community, and designed to make history feel personal. We don't curate nostalgia. We curate understanding.
We envision a city where residents and visitors not only understand and appreciate its complex and diverse heritage but are inspired to celebrate and preserve it for future generations.
To tell Kochi's stories the way they deserve to be told - rooted in research, carried by community, and built to last.
Every experience we design begins with research — archives, oral histories, inscriptions, recipes — and ends with a story that connects the past to the street you’re standing on. We believe history is only preserved if it’s also enjoyed.
Heritage belongs to the people who live inside it. Our walks feature living voices, not just dead ones. Our social enterprise model means that when you walk with us, you directly support the communities whose stories we tell.
We don’t simplify. We don’t romanticise. Kochi’s history is layered, contested, and sometimes uncomfortable — and we think that’s exactly what makes it worth telling. Our research is rigorous, our perspectives are multiple, and our stories are always honest.
