For over two millennia, ships crossed oceans to reach this coast.
Long before European empires arrived, Roman gold flowed into Kerala in exchange for pepper. Chinese fleets anchored here during their great maritime voyages. When land routes to Asia collapsed in the fifteenth century, Portuguese navigators turned to the sea — and Kochi became central to a new global order.
This flagship walking experience traces the political and economic forces that shaped Cochin from an ancient Indian Ocean port into the city once known as the “Emporium of the World,” and later crowned the “Queen of the Arabian Sea.”
We walk through the historic quarters of Fort Kochi, but our story begins far earlier — with Muziris, early transoceanic trade networks, and the shifting balance of empire. Along the way, we explore how commerce, faith, diplomacy, and engineering did not merely pass through this coast — they reshaped it.
This is not simply a colonial history walk.
It is the story of how a port negotiated with empires, redirected global trade, and continually reinvented itself across 3,000 years.
The tour can be ended with a sumptuous curated meal at a local partner eatery (charged extra and based on availability). See Lila Fort Kochi Food Connection or Lost Legacies
